Well a lot of friends and family have been wanting to see my garden. This is the first time I’ve grown tomatoes, and probably only my second or third garden. Growing in the sandy soil of Cedar Point or anywhere on the coast can be challenging at times.

My tomatoes seem to be doing fine though, despite the conditions. I’m growing everything organically, no chemicals period.

As you can see, I already have tomatoes on some of my vines. It’s been a lot of fun raising these plants all from seed. I just hope they continue to thrive and produce some nice ingredients for hot salsa.

My green onions and yellow onions seem to be doing fairly well too. When I thinned them out, the ones I pulled out were very aromatic and made my fingers smell like onions for hours.

These green Chiles started out as peppers a friend at work gave me over the winter. I ate a couple and liked them so much I saved some of the seeds which have now grown into nice young pepper plants. I hope to pick some really hot peppers soon.

My first batch of tomatillos died. This second round is looking much better.

I don’t know why I didn’t think to post this out here before. But around the Fourth of July last summer, my kayak was stolen. It was left by me next to some boat slips at The Flying Bridge in Cedar Point. I know I am partially to blame since I left it unattended for so long. I even saw that someone had moved it, and never retrieved it.

I usually would bring it closer to my apartment, but thought it should be safe over there. Obviously I was wrong. So if you or someone you know removed my kayak from the Flying Bridge this past summer it would be much appreciated if you returned it. Kayaking around Emerald Isle is one of my favorite things to do when the weather warms up, and I am really bummed out about having to spend my income tax return on a new kayak.

The one that was stolen from me is a red Wilderness Systems kayak with a rudder. The cable going to one side of the rudder is broken, and kind of hanging there. It is a two-person sit in kayak with the front seat removed. There are 2 flush mount rod holders behind the rear seat. A paddle was also taken with the kayak. So I will have to purchase a new one of those as well.

If you did steal it, I hope for your sake you return it before we bump into one another out on the water this summer. I will recognize my old friend the red kayak. I will likely be able to beat the snot out of you, and I will take my kayak back with me, leaving you stranded somewhere out there. So please do the right thing and put it back where you found it.

Above is a photo of the missing kayak. I cannot afford a reward for its return, the only reward I guess you’ll get will be a clear conscience. I didn’t get to enjoy nearly enough kayaking trips last summer due to being without my kayak.

But this year I plan to either recover my missing kayak, or purchase a new one and I will be out in full force again.

Cedar Point – Bogue House Restaurant is an excellent Crystal Coast dining choice. If you’re looking for some eastern Carolina style food this is the place for you. Its a small place with big taste.

Only minutes from Emerald Isle and Cape Carteret in Cedar Point you will find some excellent BBQ. I was trying to call in my order earlier, but the answering machine picked up and said they were closed, but I knew they were open. They really need to fix that.

Things like that usually are enough to make me choose another restaurant. But tonight I was craving Bogue House BBQ and chicken. So as much as I wanted to drive right past them and go to the Chinese restaurant in Cape Carteret, I had to pull in.

The extremely friendly gal at the counter took my order and told me it would be no more than five minutes. You know what? My food was in my hands in less than four minutes.

And when I got it home, I was in hillbilly heaven with the potato salad, fried okra, fried chicken, and Carolina BBQ. I’m so full right now, I might pop if I try to move. So for this Crystal Coast restaurant review Bogue House gets two thumbs up.

I also looked at their website and was amazed to see one Crystal Coast restaurant owner that understands how important the web is to their business. The Bogue House Restaurant site is modern and clean looking. As a matter of fact, it may be the best area restaurant website in my opinion.

I had no idea they shipped BBQ all over the country. What a novel idea! Another thing I liked about their site is the specials in the left sidebar pop-up with a nice picture of the meal. And these aren’t like McDonald’s pictures where it looks nothing like the food you get. Their photos are the real deal.

I’d like to wish Bogue House a great year in 2009. Keep up the good work.
