Morehead City – The heart of Carteret County. The town was officially incorporated in 1859. It is named in honor of John Motley Morehead. He purchased the land the town sits on from the Arendell Family in 1852. After the Atlantic and North Carolina Railroads made their way to the area Shepard’s Point Land Company began selling lots.
