Cape Lookout High School

Cape Lookout High School, which is located in Morehead City is set to close by the end of this month. The state board of education is concerned about the school’s high dropout rate. It is 30%, which is the highest in the state.  Many of the kids that attend Cape Lookout High School end up there because they’re struggling in a more traditional classroom setting.

Marine Killed in Car Crash

Emerald Isle – This past Friday, December 4th at around 9:30pm a 31 year old marine stationed at Cherry Point was killed in a wreck. The car accident happened just south of the bridge on highway 58 in Emerald Isle.

Swansboro Flotilla 2010

Friday November 26th, 2010 from 6pm to 8pm be sure to head to Swansboro for the annual holiday flotilla. If it rains the rain date is Saturday. Let’s hope the weather and wind cooperate with us this year. Last year’s flotilla had to be re-scheduled due to the high winds we were experiencing.

2010 Emerald Isle Christmas Parade

Emerald Isle Surfing

Bogue Inlet Pier; Emerald Isle, NC – Hurricane Igor, which is hundreds of miles off the Carolina coast was pushing some nice swells our way. Many surfers eagerly hit the water to take advantage of the large glassy swells.

Hurricane Earl

Carteret County residents are preparing for Hurricane Earl to graze the Carolina coast. He is already producing large, pounding surf along the Crystal Coast beaches. The exact track remains a mystery, but local officials in Emerald Isle, Pine Knoll Shores, and Atlantic Beach are taking no chances.

Big Rock Leader to be DQed?

Unofficially the boat Citation out of Frisco, NC is in the lead with their tournament-record 883 pound blue marlin. However, during the awards banquet Big Rock president Randy Ramsey interrupted the banquet and announced that there was a potential rules violation that would affect the leader board. The members of the Big Rock board need time to figure out if there were a rules violation and how to proceed if there was.

Surfer Drowns in Emerald Isle

This past holiday weekend a local surfer from Hubert, 31 year old Jeremy Lee Crandall laid down his life in an heroic attempt to rescue some swimmers that were in trouble in the waters off Emerald Isle. Crandall swam out to rescue a father and son in distress and passed his board to the son. After that he went under and drowned.

For the 2010 Beaufort Pirate Invasion, the oldest North Carolina seaport is authentically transformed while reliving the actual invasion of its Colonial past. It becomes 1747, and the streets bustle with activity as news spreads of Spanish privateers stealing command of supply ships in Beaufort Harbor.
