Town of Swansboro, NC
The Town of Swansboro has been dubbed “The Friendly City by the Sea”. And once you stop in and check it out, it’s plain to see why. The Swansboro historic waterfront is one of the most charming pieces of scenery around the Crystal Coast. The town was founded in 1783 and features a small harbor positioned on the Intracoastal Waterway.
Swansboro has a rich maritime history. It was the site of a colonial port town incorporated as Swansborough. In those days the booming local economy could be credited to the shipbuilding industry. After shipbuilding died off, the town was able to remain prosperous in the wood industry and then commercial fishing.
While in Swansboro be sure to take advantage of some of the unique Crystal Coast dining opportunities courtesy of the many restaurants in the town. There’s also a wide variety of gift shops and boutiques to visit.
Swansboro has things to do for everyone of every age and lifestyle. The Friendly City by the Sea’s location on the White Oak River and Intracoastal Waterway make it a popular destination for fishing, kayaking, and boating. There’s several golf courses nearby as well.
Throughout the year there are plenty of festivals and other events taking place in the town. Every year there is the Mullet Festival, King Mackerel Tournament, and the Christmas Flotilla to name a few.
